The Denver Outlaws give kid-friendly guided tours of Invesco Field At Mile High, including the Suite, Club, and Field Levels. In one room, a girl scout troop got to practice shooting at nets using lacrosse sticks. The troop also received autographed posters of the Outlaws dance team. The tour took place while the Outlaws players were practicing on the emerald green field. Before the game the group joined Stix (the raccoon mascot) to form the team tunnel for the players to run through.

Lacrosse is the French word for "the stick." Jesuit missionaries came from France to North America in the 17th century and saw the Native Americans playing a fast paced game with a ball and sticks. Lacrosse is very popular on the east coast and the sport is rapidly moving westward. In 2009 Denver was named one of the top lacrosse cities by Lacrosse Magazines because it has numerous youth and high school programs. There is also a successful college program at the University of Denver. There are many differences between men's lacrosse and women's field hockey. Most notably, the men are allowed to hit their opponents with their lacrosse sticks. So they wear different types of protective gear. The men use helmets and pads while the women wear helmets and a cage to protect their faces.

Attending a Denver Outlaws game is a great introduction to the sport of lacrosse. The way the players pass the ball to each other is an excellent example of teamwork. The game is fast, enjoyable, and high scoring. Easy to learn but hard to master, lacrosse seems to have a bright future in Colorado.
