Volunteering at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science in the Discovery Zone is an incredible five star experience to do as a family! It can be difficult to find volunteer opportunities if you are young but this experience is available to children, ages 6 through 13 as long as you are accompanied by an adult!
First, you will need to fill out an application and go for an interview. If they think you would be good volunteer your parent gets to come in for a tour and learn about the museum’s history! Then, your fun begins! You are then part of the volunteer staff! The museum’s employees are really nice and appreciate their volunteers. You even get to wear a fun Discovery Zone t-shirt and name badge and begin 15 sessions of really cool training. Although the Discovery Zone is geared towards younger kids, you will be amazed at how much you will learn while teaching. Every week you can run a new and exciting hands-on science exhibit! The science topics include magnetism, sense of smell and touch, gravity, anatomy, dissection, dinosaurs, rocks, fossils, archaeology and games from around the world. You might even be able to demonstrate a vacuum chamber by exploding chocolate covered marshmallows and bubble wrap! Showing children how to create crafts mirroring the museum’s exhibits is hands-on fun too! Volunteering at this science museum is really rewarding, interactive, educational and fun!
