Echoes of Us is a novel by Kat Zhang and its about sister souls, Eva and Addie. In their society, they are different because they are hybrid. Hybrid is where two souls inhabit one body. In this society, the government is out to get all hybrids so the hybrids have to go into hiding. But even for being hybrid, Eva and Addie are different. They have defied the government more than they probably should have and now they are being hunted down more than any other hybrid. They are constantly on the move, from safe house to house, hiding from the officials. Then comes Marion, a reporter helping in the revolution against the mistreatment of hybrids. She asks Eva and Addie to spend a period of time at a hybrid institution to get evidence for the revolution. Eva and Addie gain the trust of the other hybrids they meet to help them find a break through in the mistreatment of hybrids.
Being the third book in the Hybrid Chronicles trilogy, Echoes of Us can get confusing at times but the author does do a fairly good job at giving the reader a run down of what has already happened in the previous two books. I, not having read the first two novels, got confused quite a lot in the beginning but everything eventually came together.
Echoes of Us would be a more appropriate read for ages ten and up, possibly even eleven. The reason for this being that it deals with the very serious topic of finding your true identity and standing up for what you believe in. There are next to no adult language but there are some relationships happening that may not be appropriate for younger children. All in all, this was a remarkable read that is hard to put down. I would recommend reading the first two novels in the series before you read Echoes of Us.
