Colorado based author, Mark Hoog was excited to promote his five book series at Denver's most recent literacy conference, CCIRA. Hoog has attended the conference for the last 8 years. Besides selling his books, Hoog speaks all over the country and has spoken to over 200,000 students.
That is not his only job, Hoog is also a pilot and flies an airbus 320. When I asked him what inspired him to start writing he said, “A loss of a dear friend and pilot." Hoog went on to say what he enjoys most about being a pilot, “Flying all over the world and learning about new cultures and people.”
Hoog's five book series are meant to inspire and motivate students. He focuses on Youth leadership by teaching life skills in his books. Several of Hoog’s book topics include self confidence, self-esteem, responsibility, determination, perseverance, and commitment. Each of the five book's are meant to be read in order but are written so that they can stand alone.
Hoog's first book, Your Song inspires readers to find their purpose in life. The second book, Dream Machine encourages readers to dream big. The third book, Field of Dreams assures readers that those dreams are never too big. The fourth book is called Treasure Island and discusses the hard times that people face in their lives. Treasure Island's purpose is to encourage reader's to keep focused during hard times. His recent book, Magic Mountain insists that readers keep climbing to the top to reach their dreams and goals.
I asked Hoog which book out of the five was his favorite, to which he replied, “My newest book, Magic Mountain.”
During the time I spent with Hoog, he was very motivating. His advice to young writers is, “When you are creating a piece of writing, throw away the rules.” Hoog’s advice allows you to be carefree and enjoy writing. It definitely made me want to go home and write my own creative story.
