Well, the summer movie season has arrived, and arrived on a good foot with the excellent Spider-Man 3. Many, including myself, have dubbed this as the summer of sequels. This summer has lots and lots of sequels coming out. To name a few, there's Shrek the Third, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, Ocean's Thirteen, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Evan Almighty (more of a spin-off there) Live Free or Die Hard, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, The Bourne Ultimatum, Rush Hour 3, and many more. There's also The Simpsons Movie, and countless other blockbusters.
Many would say that this summer shows a lack or originality in Hollywood. Nah, that's not it. Sequels are made not JUST because they're big box office draws, but because audiences and filmmakers love revisiting old characters and continuing a story. While sequels like Live Free or Die Hard, which are sequels to film series' whose last entries were in the mid-nineties, seem more like cash-ins, you can still see originality in them.
I'm personally on the edge of my seat waiting for all these sequels, and excited to get to reviewing them. And once I get excited about reviewing stuff, it's hard to stop. So, until the sequels to these franchises get going, I'll be posting reviews of the predecessors to these films. Some of these movies I've reviewed before, but I'll be writing new reviews, as many of these old reviews were written before my true taste in film was honed.
In the coming weeks, I'll be posting reviews of:
---The First Two Shrek Films
---The First Two Pirates of the Caribbean Films
---The First Two Ocean's Eleven Films
---The First Fantastic Four Film
---The First Four Harry Potter Films
---The First Two Jason Bourne Films
---And if I'm not too tired at this point, the first two Rush Hour Films
These reviews will contain this message under the title to identify them as part of this special feature:
Summer Movie Collection Review
And of course, I'll give you all my thoughts on the new sequels. Sadly, I can't post reviews of the Die Hard trilogy, because NextGen doesn't allow reviews of R-rated films. Those of you interested in my thoughts about them: they rock, except for Die Hard 2, which is very mediocre.
Anyway, enjoy my upcoming reviews. I don't think I'll post them in any particular order, except for chronologically within the series.
And no comments about me needing to get a life. It's true, but it's just plain rude to say so.
