Wednesday, August 27 was Delegate Service Day at the Democratic National Convention. The goal of the day was to serve the people of Denver through a variety of ways - cleaning, planting, organizing, and serving food. There were delegates from all over. I decided to go to the Denver Rescue Mission where I met Pat Waak as she served. She is the Colorado Democratic Chairperson. I was lucky enough to be able to ask her some questions.
1-How did you get started in politics?
PW- Well, in 1964 I was a college student and I worked on my first political campaign, mostly because I was worried about health care issues.
2- Are you from Colorado?
PW- I am from Colorado. I live in Erie.
#-What is your favorite part about being the Colorado Democratic Chairperson?
PW- The people. I really like the people who work in politics and who volunteer. I have been in every county. There are 64 counties in Colorado and in every county you can meet a lot of local people who are working on behalf of the Democratics.
4-Are you voting for Obama?
PW- I am voting for Obama. I think he is the best candidate to lead this country.
5- Were you a delegate before you became chairperson?
PW - No, not to the national convention. I have been to previous conventions, but usually in the role of staff, so this is my first time to be a delegate and to chair the delegation.
PW - It looks like a very exciting year. We have been able to hear from Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama. I am looking forward to hearing from President Clinton and Joe Biden.
