A Galaxy From Far, Far Away Visits Denver
Contributed by: Meghan Sharma on 10/26/2009

" A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away..."These are the famous words that started the Star Wars saga. On Sunday, October 18th, the Star Wars: In Concertorchestra performed the classic pieces heard from the Star Wars movies at the Pepsi Center. I got a chance to hear this wonderful music along with seeing some of the original costumes the actors used.

As we approached the Pepsi Center, we were all so excited. It was something we had been waiting for this all week! We looked at some of the Star Wars costumes before the show began. We saw everything-from the Master-Jedi Yoda, the droid, or robot, C-3PO, and a couple of Ewoks (creatures from the "Return of the Jedi" movie that look similar to bears.) We also saw some Sith attire. In the Star Wars shows, "Siths" are the bad people who want to dominate the world and all the good Jedis. This included a Darth Vader and a Storm Trooper's helmet. We even got to see the real music score composed by John Williams.

Finally, the show began. It started with an amazing orchestral performance of the main theme. The music was so good and sounded so much like it did in the movie, it seemed as if you were in a movie theater and the orchestra wasn't playing in front of you. The strings had astonishing bow synchronization and intonation. The brass and woodwinds had wonderful pitch and the music sounded very clear. "I liked it because they played really good," said my ten year old sister Amber. Above the musicians, a gargantuan screen showed clips from the movie and had a laser light show to accompany the music.

After the theme, the C-3PO actor Anthony Daniels came out to narrate the show. For the rest of the concert, the orchestra and choir performed all the songs from the movies and the slideshows played.

At the end, the performers played the main theme again and the crowd gave a huge applaud with a standing ovation. This was a great show that my family and I enjoyed. "I would rate this show five stars!" said my seven year old brother Shaan. Whether you're a Star Wars fanatic, a person who loves listening to orchestras, or just someone looking for something to do, I would definitely recommend the Star Wars: In Concertshow for anyone.
