It's a Kick...A soccer Camp
Do your parents work in the summer? Do you just sit on the couch and watch the same shows over and over again? Well, now you can get up, go meet new friends, learn new ideas and skills and have a bunch fun! All you have to do is find a camp and talk to your parents about it. I went to a Rocky Mountain Soccer Camp in Golden. It has been around since 1971. The first thing I noticed when I walked onto the field is RMSC is a very welcoming place and people are very kind and generous.The field is in a pretty setting nestled in the foothills where campers can look at the mountains.
RMSC offers two sessions per day; one is from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. with lunch from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.and another session from 12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. Most people stay for the whole day. Campers can either buy a lunch or bring their own. During lunch the coaches play movies and highlights from some soccer games and campers get to see how the pro's use moves to get around defenders. On the day I visited RMSC players worked on ball control and skills. I learned lots of awesome moves and although we only worked on each of the 9 moves for a short time everybody understood them. The coaches taught them in a clear way. " This camp is cool because it's got lots of skills!" Mckayla, age 11 told me. "We do not offer anything year-round," director Mark Perdew says, "we have lots of summer camps and some indoor soccer camps in the winter." Mark worked first as a coach and a camp counselor at RMSC for six years. When the director retired he sold the camp to Mark and Mark has been the director for 18 years. Mark is the director of the camp and Lissa and Andy are part of the coaching staff. "Soccer is fun because of the teamwork and you can always get better!" Molly, age 12 comments. Kathryn , age 10 says "Soccer is a cool sport because you get to run a lot and use cool tricks!" I enjoyed this camp because the coaches spent time helping kids improve their actual game. While rainbows and the juggling rainbow are fun tricks, but how often do you see rainbows with a bicycle kick in a game? RMSC spent time teaching quick and easy moves to help players move around defenders instead of tricks that couldn't easily be used in games. When interviewed, Melany age 11 of Denver, said her favorite thing about this camp is you can meet new people and don't have to come as a team or with another person. She choose this camp because she wanted to learn new skills. Her favorite move is the double touch 360 also known as the Maradona. So if you're looking for something to help you improve your soccer skills and a chance to make new friends this would be the camp for you!
