This Season is unforgetable
Contributed by: Rachel Faulkner on 7/8/2009

Over the years, many people have been caught up in the fairy-tale-like world of Jane Austen. This time period actually existed! It was called the Regency, and while it was a time of grace, politeness, and elegance. And murder. Or at least, that's how it's painted in Sara MacLean's new book, The Season.
In the book, beautiful Lady Alexandra is a non-conformist rebel at heart. Although graceful and born into a powerful and wealthy family, she hates fashion and the looming prospect of an arranged marriage. Assisted by her closest friends, Ella and Vivi, she is dreading her coming out for her first season as a fashionable, eligible London darling.
But when dashing Gavin Sewell, Earl of Blackmoor, who has always been a good friend until recently, catches her eye, Alex doesn't know what is wrong with her. Especially because his father has just been murdered and she might just have the answer to his frantic hunt for the former Earl's killer.
It was a clever spin off the traditional Regency romance, and I loved every word. I couldn't put it down!
One drawback - the characters did not use the poetic banter that people of the Regency would have spoken. Their words were far too modern for my taste. In that respect, I was slightly disappointed.
But language nonwithstanding, I can recommend The Season quite enthusiastically!
