The Truth Cookie

Fall into this book by just reading the title! Lulu is being tortured by her step mother to be. Her mother died when she was 5 and now Lulu's dad, 8 years "found" a new woman. More like she found him. Her name is Varaminta. She is a former super-model and is the author of a book, How to be as thin as me.Varaminta dislikes Lulu enormously.Lulu sees the evil in Varaminta and her just as evil and clever son Torquil. But Lulu's dad doesn't see it because Varaminta and Torquil are fantastic liars. Lulu's dad is the inventor for Sweet Nothings, No-Fat Desserts. 1 month after an article comes out about the sweet nothings. Varaminta "meets" Lulu's father. Coincidence? Lulu thinks not. After some eavesdropping Lulu finds out that Varaminta wants to marry her father! But it's all a trap to promote Varaminta's book. Lulu must find a way for Varaminta and Torquil to confess about all the rotten things they did to her because her dad obviously won't believe her. Lulu has limited time before the wedding.

On Lulu's birthday Varaminta takes her to a special day at the spa, really she just thinks Lulu needs a makeover. Well Lulu runs away from the spa and catches the next bus going somewhere. She stumbles across a book store with an elderly man speaking nonsense about how books find people. But then she spots a book with letter from her dead mother saying Happy Birthday Lulu! Lulu takes the book, named The Apple Star before Varaminta finds her. Later she was disappointed to find it was just a cookbook. But after thoroughly looking through it she found it was for solving problems! One of the recipes was for making people tell the truth.That was perfect!

But, the ingredients were troubling where was one supposed to get camels butter and crow's eggs? In Egyptian hieroglyphics say an address. Once Lulu arrives at the address and gets all of the strange ingredients she is sure the plan will work. Lulu plans to serve the cookies at Torquil's school's fair tomorow. Will Lulu's plan work? You'll have to read the book to reveal the ending!
