Take the Wii Wheel!
Contributed by: Chase Hoven on 7/21/2008

Nintendo's classic Mario Kart series now has a new game.............Mario Kart Wii! This awesome game hit the shelves of stores worldwide in April of 2008. In one month, the game had sold over one million copies in Japan and the United States alone. Many fans of the Mario Kart series (including me) thought it was the best game yet and hope for a sequel. The game features more intense tracks, amazing graphics and your classic Mario Kart racers in newly designed cars. Wow, this game is fantastic!

The Wii version of Mario Kart has many new additions to the series. The most noticeable of the changes, however, was the addition of new tracks. The game also brought back retro courses from past Mario Kart games: Super Mario Kart, Mario Kart 64, Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Mario Kart: Double Dash and Mario Kart DS. In total, there are 32 courses to compete against your rivals, 16 are new tracks and the other 16 are tracks from the old versions of Mario Kart. Enjoy the new tracks, but also have a blast racing on those old courses as well.

Another change to Mario Kart Wii is the characters. In total, there are 24 characters to race with. Twelve drivers can race at once and the 24 drivers are separated into three weight classes: light, medium, heavy. There are 8 drivers in each class of weight, so the field is leveled out. At the beginning of the game, you start with 12 playable characters. Throughout the game, however, you can unlock more characters by performing well in grand prix races.

Another addition is the Wi-Fi system. In this extra edition to the game, players all over the world can race against each other on all the Mario Kart courses. It really adds a lot more competition to the game as you may be going up against your best friend or someone who lives in Paris.

When I first saw Mario Kart Wii, I thought that it was nothing special. But after playing it and getting used to the new settings of the game such as the Wii Wheel, motorbikes and the more aggressive racing, I really enjoyed the game. With the game, however, there will be more frustration than ever before. 'Oh my gosh' will become a regular phrase in your house and your 'victory' dance may be jumping up and down, screaming, "Stupid game!" However, unlocking all those characters, tracks, and settings will make you satisfied.

So next time you look for a game to play, look no further than your TV, steering wheel and Mario Kart Wii.
