All Summer, Less Tech

This summer, my family (mainly my parents) decided that cable TV was just costing too much, and that we wouldn't pay for it anymore. So, over the days, slowly, ever so slowly, our cable channels disappeared into thin air.

Ever since, our family hasn't watched much TV, or really done anything technological (mostly because there's nothing good on). Believe it or not, it's actually really nice to not be glued to high-tech things anymore.

As a result of our technology strike, we've been doing quite a few more things together, including going on fun, little day-long vacations. For instance, we've been to Breckenridge, Frisco, Heritage Square, The Arapahoe County Fair, the Denver Zoo, the Denver Art Museum, gone horseback riding, and lots, lots more.

But going places wasn't all that happened. We've been spending a lot more family time together, just doing crafts, and making things like home movies. Everything that happened ended up helping us bond more, and be less busy and distracted. A little time can go a long way.

It's just amazing and hard to believe when you think about it--all this happened just from less TV!As it turns out, we weren't the only ones with this less-tech idea. Adbusters magazine thought of the same thing--in today's world, people just have too much technology overall. So Adbusters and other organizations came up with "Digital Detox Week", which is two times a year: April 19-25, and September 19-25 2010. It helped my family so much I would encourage others to give it a try, too!

Thats awesome! Great life style change for the better.

That really sounds like a good opportunity.

I love this story, it wouldn't be a bad idea either and I like how you based it off of your daily life.
