Tiger Lily, by Jodi Lynn Anderson, is a gratifying story about a 15 year old Sky Eater named Tiger Lily. She lives on the island of Neverland, a world not known to most humans – the ones with the “aging disease.” Tiger Lily mostly stays to herself, considering many people of the tribe are afraid of her. When she finds out that she will be married to horrid Giant, a man Tiger Lily dislikes, she knows she won't have a happy ending. Then she meets Peter Pan, the leader of the feared Lost Boys. Soon, Tiger Lily is risking the life she has always lived – living with her womanly father, Tik Tok; her friends Moon Eye and Pine Sap; the village that she grew up in, but was less than accepted in. Tiger Lily will choose Peter, right? But who will Peter choose, the England girl or the girl with the crow feather in her hair?
I really enjoyed reading Tiger Lily, and I think a lot of other people will enjoy it, too. This is definitely a young adult book though, there are parts that imply subjects that are inappropriate for younger readers. A good age group would probably be readers in seventh grade and over. Jodi Lynn Anderson is a great author, and I look forward to reading other books written by her such as Peaches and The Secrets of Peaches. I hope you find that you can relate to Tiger Lily as much as I did and that you like this story of the first girl Peter Pan ever belonged to and loved.
