Do you like going to the zoo? The Henry Doorly Omaha Zoo and Aquarium is one of the best zoos in the United States and it takes less than a day to get there. The tickets are inexpensive and you can see a lot walking through 130 acres of exhibits and gardens. The Zoo has a Butterfly and Insect Pavilion, Scott Aquarium, Desert Dome, Kingdoms of the Night, Lied Jungle, Wildlife Safari Park, Petting Zoo, IMAX Theater, and many other fun exhibits to visit.
The Butterfly and Insect Pavilion is my favorite exhibit because it feels like you are in a beautiful rain forest with a sweat summoning air temperature of 82 degrees Fahrenheit. The butterflies fly around you, absorbing you in their unique colors and forms. I spent more than an hour taking pictures of the agile butterflies and hummingbirds. A Blue Tiger butterfly sat on my chest. At the butterfly pavilion I learned that if you wear bright clothes more butterflies will land on you.
The Scott Aquarium is one of the best aquariums that I’ve ever been to. It holds 1.3 million gallons of sea water and hundreds of colorful fish. Sharks swim above you as you watch in amazement. The aquarium is like a big tunnel holding lots of fish and sharks. After you walk through the tunnel, you will enter a room full of stunning jellyfish aquariums. It is an unforgettable experience. You feel like you are walking through a faraway planet full of alien like blobs. The aquariums have a dazzling aqua blue background that makes the jellyfish look like they are swimming deep in the unknown ocean.
The Desert Dome and Kingdoms of the Night features many interesting animals that live in the deserts and caves all over the world. The thirteen story high dome is a landmark of the city of Omaha. “Kingdoms of the Night” exhibit is located under the Desert Dome and is home to the Japanese Giant Salamander. The Omaha Zoo is one of six zoos in the United States where you can see this unique creature up-close.
I cannot tell you everything in one article. Go and see this amazing place for yourself! This is the perfect zoo for people that like to learn about different animals and plants in full emerging exhibits where you can dive into the habitats and see animals alongside you. I love Omaha Zoo and would like to visit it again. Will you?
