Today we took an inside look of the Central Denver Public Library’s circulation system. The department is run by hand but there is one machine that does it all. This machine is called the Automated Return System; it has up to two conveyor belts that carry books up the belt in to a cargo bin that is emptied a hundreds of times each day. However there is a different version inside the library. This machine is very similar but works harder and has more technology built in to make it what it is, the only difference is the complicated sorting device built in, it sorts books, DVDs, magazines, and audio books in to their labeled bins. The hand job is the hardest, that’s why dozens of staff members work in the circulation department to get our books returned and back on the shelf and the next morning do it all over again to make our library system what it is today.
