Olympian takes home the gold and a new story…
In a sold out Hamilton Gymnasium on the University of Denver Campus, over one thousand girls and boys waited in line to get an autograph from Olympic Gold Medalist, gymnast Jordyn Wieber.
Jordyn was the special guest of the University of Denver’s women’s gymnastics team. Before their meet against Arizona State University and Illinois State (DU WON!), Jordyn answered questions from the fans. I interviewed her and found out that she is from Dewitt, Michigan, she‘s 17 years old and she loves gymnastics! She never thought about quitting, even when she didn’t feel good, because winning is her number one goal.
Jordyn explained that standing on the podium in London, when she won the gold medal with her teammates, “was amazing because it’s a great feeling to know you have come so far and you are feeling great about it.” She also said it was amazing because “It’s the Olympics!”
Her advice to young gymnasts is to always do your best and never quit. She’s going to graduate from high school this year and then go to UCLA, where she’ll be a coach for the gymnastics team. She’s training for the 2016 Olympics, which will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
