Boy Meets World fans beware! The recently released sequel, Girl Meets World is not what you may think. The highly anticipated Disney show aired on June 27th.
The show is focused on Cory and Topanga's daughter, Riley Matthews (Rowan Blanchard) and her best friend Maya Hart (Sabrina Carpenter).
In the pilot, the two girls try to sneak out of Riley's window to ride the subway, but are stopped by Riley's parents, who ironically later give them permission to ride the subway. On the subway, the meet a guy named Lucas Friar (Peyton Meyer). Later in History Class, their teacher, Riley's father, (Cory Matthews) (Ben Savage), assigns the class the days's homework assignment, which is to write an essay about something they would fight for. Maya fights for no homework and Riley joins in. Maya is supposed to be the 'Shawn' from Boy Meets World, and does not match at all. Maya is very bratty, whereas Shawn wasn't at all. And frankly her character is overly dramatic. In the end, Riley discovers she would fight for friendship, and Cory and Topanga (Danielle Fishel) understand Riley is growing up and they need to be there for her.
Parents may not be big fans of this either because of Riley's disrespect to her parents. She is very rude to her dad at school, and is portrayed as smarter than her parents. When the parents finally do things her way, they're shown as being "good parents".
Overall, I thought this show was pretty disappointing. I think the directors are trying too hard to copy the original. Which makes the show cheesy, and no fun to watch. As people usually say, the original is the best, which is why you should stick to the re-runs of Boy Meets World.
