One of the best things about summer is making yummy fruit pie and enjoying it afterward. In the story My Mixed Up Berry Blue Summer by Jennifer Gennair a 12 year old girl named June Farrell loves making pies. She is also very good at making them. She plans to win a pie competition in the Champion Valley Fair. But Vermont’s Civil union law gets into her family’s business. June’s mom is going to get married to Eva but Vermont’s law is not letting the two girls get married to each other. June and her best friend Luke try to not give up on the pie competition and more importantly, not on her family.
This is a good story about friendship, family, and what is important.
My Mixed Up Berry Blue Summer is for ages 9-12 and has 128 pages. Although girls and boys could find it interesting, it seems to be geared toward girls. I think this is a great book for people who like to cook because June tells you how to get only the finest ingredients. There’s even a recipe for Junes famous Wild Berry Pie you can make! I would rate this book 4 out of 5 stars because it was very interesting but didn’t always keep me on the edge of my seat. My Mixed Up Berry Blue Summer is a very exciting and interesting book that I think everyone will love!
