It was one of those summers where life could not have been better or more carefree. Days were filled with rain and sunshine and mud; we became children of the Earth, farmers of the Burren. From clucking chickens and freshly laid eggs to the distant baaing of sheep. For once there was complete silence or at least the silence of a farmyard. . . the mooing of cows, laughter of rain, and busy presence of honey and bumblebees.

In 1890 Bob Womack discovered gold in Cripple Creek, Colorado. In 1892 Cañon City constructed Shelf Road through a gorge as a stagecoach road to connect the two towns. Back then people were only interested in gold and rode along rock cliffs that looked like a shelf. Today, this super cool place is known for a lot more than gold.

Shelf Road has great hiking, camping and rock climbing. There are many hiking trails in the area.

In Waiting for Unicorns by Beth Hautala, 12 year old Talia and her physically and mentally faraway father move from Massachusetts to Churchill, a small town hidden in the depths of the arctic. Talia is very angry that she has to spend the whole summer by herself while her father researches whales when she is alone with only a native Inuit woman and a town of strangers for company. Talia is still mourning over the recent death of her mother, but she slowly comes out of her isolation and meets livelong friends.

It is offering its visitors to experience the beauty of the Royal Gorge and the second highest suspension bridge in the world like never before. You can come on the weekend or holiday and take bus tours around the park and the bridge.

A place where animal lovers and wildlife experts or people who like wildlife will be right at home. As one person working there says, "It's a hidden gem in the city".

I bet a lot of you have seen or heard of the article that was in the Denver Post recently about the bison population with the main focus being the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge.

Colorado Ghost Towns, do you dare?

Today I went to two Colorado ghost towns. The first was Roggen in Weld County in Northern Colorado. There was an old abandoned motel with a couple of rooms and an office on the end.

Have you ever wondered about Columbus’ voyages? Have you ever imagined yourself sailing along with them, eating only an ounce of salted meat and drinking a glass of wine a day? I was always fascinated by the first explorers and got excited to go to Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History in Texas.

With cold weather coming, maybe you or your parents will warm up with a nice cup of tea.  Chances are, that tea might come from the Celestial Seasonings factory right here in Colorado.  The factory is located in Boulder and they offer FREE tours everyday.
