I am dedicating this blog to all things photography. I will show you my latest, and ask that you rate it. Also, I will be showing you how to edit your own photos on a free software called GIMP. Abstract and Different: The Best Photos
Contributed by: Davis Anderson   on 7/10/2009

So, today on my little blog about photography I want to talk to you guys about the idea behind you photos. Is it a picture of a girl prancing in tall grass? Is it a man being sucked into a vortex of darkness? Is it a woodland princess having her heart torn? It could be anything. I want to talk to you guys about how to make your photos better, keeping the final masterpiece in mind.

Before you even start taking pictures, get out a piece of paper. Do a couple simple things that will help you to stay on track with your photo shoot.
•Sketch a quick drawing of what you want your photo to look like.
•Write a story behind it. For example: Why is the girl prancing in tall grass? What's her name? Where is she from? Making up answers to these simple questions will add more depth of the picture in your mind, and therefore will make the picture better.
•Get out your camera and check out some of the settings. Take some test shots of anything (the wall, your dog, it really doesn't matter) with different ISO, exposure, and other settings.
•Get on your computer and bring up your photo editing software (Photoshop, GIMP etc.) and try out some setting and tools. Also, go online on Flickr, Google, or Photobucket and find some photos to inspire you.
If you do these things, even before you start shooting, you'll know exactly how to get the result you want.

Now for the picture taking portion of the photo shoot. First, take some good photos of your model (and when I say good, I mean usable) so that you at least have a picture. Then, start taking some chances. Add new things and go to some different setting. You may find that you'll get a picture that's a whole lot better than you expected to get.

Then head to your computer. Instead of having to spend so much time thinking of what to do to your photo, you will have already worked on a test photo on your photo editing software, so you won't waste as much time.

All in all, this process takes a lot more time, but the outcome ends up being really great. So go out there and try this method out. (Don't forget to send me your Flickr URL so I can see your photos!)
