Lakewood, Colorado- Nestled in an old part of Lakewood is a wonderful organization, called the Santa Shop. They collect new toys, for families in Jefferson County that can’t afford gifts for the holidays. This wonderful organization is operated by the Jeffco Action Center and a dedicated group of volunteers. Their hard work makes it possible for kids to not be left out during the holidays. The Jeffco Action Center is where everything is organized for the Santa Shop. “The Jeffco Action Center opened in 1968. The first year The Santa Shop helped 17 families. Last year we helped about 1,000 families, which is about 3,000 kids,” said Betty Buelter, a volunteer of the organization for 20 years. When I volunteered, I was put straight to work to help get things organized for the December distribution. It felt so good knowing I was contributing to the wonderful shop. What a wonderful holiday kids will have, with the great gifts the Santa Shop has to offer. I felt so good inside and I can just picture the smile on their faces. “December is coming too fast,” says Patsy Higgs, a volunteer. They can use any help and donations. For donations, what they really could use is working leap pad units and power touch products by fisher price. They also could use help during the toy distribution. Every little bit makes a difference.Drop donations off at: Jeffco Action Center 8755 W. 14th @ Estes. Interested in volunteering? Call the Jeffco Action Center at: 303-237-7704
