Imagine living in a society with hover cars, talking walls, and technology like there's no tomorrow. "Uglies" by Scott Westerfeld is about a girl living three hundred years from now. In this society, when you have your sixteenth birthday, you don't learn to drive but you go through an extreme plastic surgery and become "pretty". Tally, the main character, is a few months away from her sixteenth birthday. Her best friend just turned "pretty" and she really misses him. She meets another girl named Shay. They have the same birthday and want to be best friends forever. A few days before their birthday, Shay tells Tally that she want to run away and she wants Tally to come with her. Tally doesn't go but that decision changes her life.

This book is really good. I recommend this book to kids twelve years or older because there might be some events, which smaller kids won't understand. "Uglies" is very good so read it if you have the chance! This book is a 2007- 2008 nominee for the Blue Spruce Young Adult Award.
