This Labor Day weekend, my parents and I went to the largest stupa in North American, the Great Stupa of Dharmakaya. The Great Stupa of Dharmakaya is one of the most magnificent buildings of sacred Buddhist architecture outside Asia. Following the death of Trungpa, a teacher of Buddhism in 1987, his followers began a fourteen-year process of building a stupa at the Shambhala Mountain Center. The project was completed in August of 2001. The Great Stupa of Dharmakaya reaches 108 feet (33 m) and is open to visitors daily. The property is nestled on 600 acres (2.4 kmĀ²) of grassy fields, forest, ponds, and streams with tons on beautiful scenery. The center boasts 35,000 square feet of building space for meditation, dharma talks, programs, and living quarters. This mountain center is located near Red Feather Lakes – Rocky Mountain Shambhala Center near Fort Collins, Colorado.I think it is a great experience to simply see other cultures and religions other than your own. In America, it is rare to find a Buddhism sanctuary, so why not take the chance to enjoy the traditions of the Buddhism. I believe that it is good to learn about different kinds of people. Though not believers, I still had a fabulous time eating Buddhist food, hiking, and learning about the Buddhists. It might be different from what you believe in, but it is still a terrific experience.
