Miss Nelson is Missing is the latest children’s theater play at the Arvada Center. The play is based on the book by Henry Allard and James Marshall. We went backstage and saw a couple of costumes that they were thinking about putting in the play. The book’s illustrations do not have realistic looking people. The kids are fat and squishy looking. So that was something they had to change from the book for the play. Another thing they changed was Miss Viola Swamp. In the book, her hair is on the side of her head, her nose is more like a potato. The play has her hair sticking straight up and out of her head. Miss Nelson wasn’t changed for the play. It was cool to see how the illustrations from the book transformed into sketches and then costumes for the play.
