DreamerAuthor: Cathy Hapka based on the motion picture written by John GatinsIllustrator: no illustratorPublisher: Scholastic Inc.Number of Pages: 150Dreamer is about a girl named Cale Crane who went to her father’s work and met a horse named Sonya. While Cale was at her dad’s work, she met two people who became her friends: Manolin and Balon. Sonya’s father [Ben] needs help so he asks his father, Pop Crane. They don’t get along well so Pop Crane refuses to help Ben. Cale really wants to keep Sonya but her dad won’t let her and her mom [Lilly] wants to keep the horse because she thinks that it is one of the best things that happened to this family. While Sonya was in a race, she got injured. Everybody wanted to put Sonya down, but Cale won’t let them. Soon the Cranes train Sonya when Sonya heals after they take Sonya home. But will Sonya fall down again? Will Sonya heal? Will Cale train her? Will they get rich? Will they compete in a big race? If they do, will Sonya win? All of these questions are answered in the book: “Dreamer”.What I liked about the book is when Cale never gave up on Sonya when all was lost. What I didn’t like was when everybody said to put her down and didn’t have faith in Cale and Sonya. The character that I didn’t like was mostly Palmer because he kept on making fun of them and keeps on talking about money and bragging. I like the rest of the characters. The plot is about Cale Crane, her dad Ben Crane, her mom Lilly Crane, her grandfather Pop Crane, and her friends Balon and Manolin helping Sonya to heal and to win the big race. Yes, I recommend this book because the message is to never give up when all things are lost and that dreams can come true if you believe in them and because it is a great book. I think all ages would enjoy this book. The writing is great and it describes the setting very well. Dreamer is a great book and it is highly recommended.
