Danger on the LakeA book review by Elana NeileyJust this summer I got to read the book “Deep and Dark and Dangerous” by Mary Downing Hahn. This book is one of the most exiting books I have read in my life! The book begins with thirteen year old Ali digging around her attic just before summer began. As she was digging around she found an old photograph of her mom and aunt as kids. There had been a third person in the picture but she had been torn out. Ali wanted to find out more about the girl. The setting of the picture was at a lake in Maine. Ali’s aunt invited her to come for the summer and stay with her and her five year old daughter in a cabin on the same lake that was in the photo. Ali went. When they got to the lake Ali met a snotty girl named Sissy who knew about the girl who had been torn out of the picture. Soon Ali is wrapped up in an exciting, sad, scary, and fun mystery.”Deep and Dark and Dangerous” isn’t very scary in my opinion, but I thought it was a very good book. One thing I didn’t like was Ali’s mom. She drove me nuts! Ali’s mom was a worry wart. Ali’s aunt on the other hand was a get up and go person. Ali’s five year old cousin scared easily, was a little confused at times, a cry baby, and a copy cat. Overall I think “Deep and Dark and Dangerous” is an excellent book. I think anyone in fourth to eighth grade can read “Deep and Dark and Dangerous” and enjoy it. If people like the book then another book they might like is “The Secret of Shadow Ranch” in the Nancy Drew series.

  1. I have read this book before.
I have read this book before. I liked it, but I got a little bored in the middle, so I skipped to the end. Good writing!
