I am the vice president of the Campus Middle school National Junior Honor Society (NJHS). I believe that this is a great activity for kids who love the community. National Junior Honors Society is a worldwide organization in many middle schools. This “society” is a fantastic place for whole-hearted kids to help out the community and school with tons of volunteering projects. Unfortunately, not all kids are capable of being a part of this awesome organization. Selection is based on five criteria: citizenship, service, leadership, scholarship and character. Members must maintain a high grade point average (the national minimum is 3.5 on a 4.0 scale in my school) and become good citizens (by participating in service projects, 15 hours per semester). Don’t worry about the 15 hours, most of the time the NJHS will have community service projects for kids to attend in as a school. The National Junior Honor Society was founded back in 1929 in the hopes of creating an organization that would recognize and encourage academic achievement while also developing other characteristics essential to kids in the US. The ideals of scholarship, character, service, and citizenship remain as very relevant today as they were in 1929. NJHS is also used as a way to encourage students to participate in community service and help out the community. After completing NJHS, National Honors Society is next for those community-loving kids. The NHS is created in 1921 by the same organization National Association of Secondary School Principals to honor and recognize excellent high school students. Students are selected for membership through an established school chapter in secondary public and accredited private schools by a five member Faculty Council. Candidates must meet the chapter’s requirement for scholarship, service, leadership and character in order to be selected for membership. If you love the community and would love to help out in a positive manner, come to NJHS. You will be happy at what you can do in the world.
