The Nutcracker is a classic ballet many families look forward to seeing every year during the holidays. This ballet is about a little girl named Clara who receives a Nutcracker as a Christmas gift. She dreams about herself with her nutcracker fighting the evil mouse king and his soldiers. In order to win the battle, Clara has to find the Sugarplum Princess. Clara’s dream comes to life when the dancers hit the stage. My friend, Emilee Nelson, dances in this year’s performance at the David Taylor Dance Theatre. She is one of many dancers in the Nutcracker. She is a solider, a candy cane and a girl at the party. Her favorite part is being a solder because the soldiers learn the hardest dance out of all the other parts for kids. Emilee’s favorite dance move from the Nutcracker is Assembl√©. Emilee, almost ten years old, has been dancing since she was two and a half. In addition to practicing for the upcoming performance, she also attends weekly dance classes. Right now she is dancing over ten hours a week! She hopes to keep dancing and someday be in Swan Lake or Sleeping Beauty. The David Taylor Dance Theatre performances of The Nutcracker are on December 15-16, and December 20-23 at the Lakewood Cultural Center. You can get tickets by calling 303-987-7845 or at www.Lakewood.org.
