Evan Almighty hit store shelves earlier this year after having large success on the silver screen. The movie’s protagonist, Evan Baxter (Steve Carell) plays a young congressman, with his campaign slogan “Change the World” leading his way. He takes his family to Virginia for a new life, and hopes to become closer to his family. However, things start getting weird when he settles in. One thing leads to another, and Evan finds himself face to face with God (Morgan Freeman), who instructs him to create an ark. At first, Evan thinks he’s gone insane under the stress of a new job, but soon mysterious shipments of wood and pairs of animals show up at his home. The story of the ark is superimposed upon Evan’s personal problems at his job and household, which now seems like a cliché in today’s market. The actors in Evan Almighty are top-notch, and Steve Carell is just as funny as he always. Dialogue is never tedious and there are plenty of one-liners to go around. The special effects are nothing special, but they set the tone, and the water effects feel epic and smooth. Overall, the presentation of is great and the writing is funny and memorable. I recommend Evan Almighty for the whole family, and I give it an eight out of ten
