The US Top High School

Tony Yin writes, On Newsweek.

On, there is a brand new ranking of high schools for the 2007 year. I am overall kind of disappointed at this ranking’s results. Unfortunately, none of the Colorado high schools made it to the top 100 high schools on this list. How are the ranking made is the question a lot of people will ask. Anyways, public schools are ranked according to a ratio devised by Jay Mathews, a writer for Newsweek. This ratio is made by the number of Advanced Placement, Intl. Baccalaureate and/or Cambridge tests taken by all students at a school in 2006 divided by the number of graduating seniors. These 1351 has to have an index of at least 1, and this covers all of the top 5% high schools. Here are the top 20 high schools:1Talented and GiftedDallasTexas2Science/Engineering Magnet DallasTexas3Stanton College Prep ** JacksonvilleFla.4Jefferson County IBS ** IrondaleAla.5Suncoast Community ** Riviera BeachFla.6BASIS Charter TucsonAriz.7International Academy ** Bloomfield HillsMich.8Oxford Academy CypressCalif.9City Honors ** BuffaloN.Y.10Preuss UCSD La JollaCalif.11Academic Magnet North CharlestonS.C.12International School BellevueWash.13H-B Woodlawn ArlingtonVa.14The Early College at Guilford GreensboroN.C.15North Hills School ** IrvingTexas16Highland Park DallasTexas17Paxon School for Advanced Studies ** JacksonvilleFla.18Eastside ** GainesvilleFla.19Dreyfoos School of the Arts West Palm BeachFla.20Raleigh Charter RaleighColorado isn’t that bad of a state when it comes to education, here the Colorado high schools that made the top 400:154Lakewood ** Lakewood166Niwot Niwot177Boulder Boulder254Fairview ** Boulder293D’Evelyn Denver310Cherry Creek Greenwood Village362Cheyenne Mountain Colorado Springs394Grandview Aurora397George WashingtonDenverFor more information of this ranking, go to
