Need to see a great movie, a fantasy thriller and comedy in one? Then I have a movie for you; The Spiderwick Chronicles. The movie is based off the five books by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black, The Field Guide, The Seeing Stone, Lucinda’s Secret, The Ironwood Tree, and The Wrath of Mulgarath. The format of this fantasy movie is similar to the Series of Unfortunate Events movie. Nickelodeon and Paramount joined together to make this wonderful movie. The movie takes place in a modern day forest, but in the middle of these woods lays a house that’s over eighty years old. Eighty years ago, the girl living there, Lucinda, gets moved to a house for crazy people for saying her father was abducted by fairies. Now eighty years later when Lucinda’s only living relatives need a place to stay, Simon, Jared and Mallory Grace move in to the house along with their mother, and they know the house is creepy from the start. They hear creaky noises in the walls, discover an old dumbwaiter, and begin to see unusual things happen before their eyes. Jared discovers an old dusty book, Arthur Spiderwick’s Field Guide to the Fantastical World Around You. The book tells about all the invisible creatures in the forest, some are wicked, and some are helpful and kind. Mulgarath, an evil shape-shifting ogre, who leads the goblins is after the book, and after it is uncovered again, he and his goblins will stop at nothing to get it back.I loved the movie, and would recommend it to kids ages seven and up, that enjoy fantasy story plots. It may be a bit too spooky for younger kids, but if you need a good shock, this is a good one to see. This film is rated PG, and 97 minutes long. This is a touching and exciting movie that will help you discover the Fantastical World Around You!!!
