We all know the Rockies players with big names such as Matt Holliday and Troy Tulowitzki but the two Rockies who are representing the USA in the Bejing Olympics are two players not many of us have heard of. Dexter Fowler and Casey Weathers. Fowler was drafted in the 14th round (410th overall) in the 2004 draft out of Milton High School in Alpharetta, Georgia, He was the starting Center Fielder for the US in the All-Star Futures Game. Fowler has a very lanky frame at 6’5″ 173 pounds. Casey Weathers was drafted in the 1st round (8th overall) in the 2007 draft out of Vanderbilt University, His Teammate at Vanderbilt, David Price was selected 1st overall by The Tampa Bay Devil Rays (who have now changed their name to just The “Tampa Bay Rays”.) Weathers has been a closer nearly his entire life and is one the Rockies best prospects. Weathers is 6’1″ 200 pounds, Weathers and Fowler are currently playing for The Tulsa Drillers, the Double-A affiliate of the Rockies. The reason why the big names of Major League Baseball are not on the Olympic team is because to be on the USA team a player cannot be on a 40-man MLB Roster. Another Rockies player who made the Olympic team was Jayson Nix, Who currently is playing for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox. Nix was the MVP of the 2007 Baseball World Cup. Nix won the Second Basemen job with an amazing Spring Training but struggled at the Major League Level and was sent down to Triple-A. In the las 4 Summer Olympics, Cuba has gotten three Gold medals and one Silver Medal in Baseball. The one time Team USA has won the Gold was in 2000 at the Sydney Olympics.
