The Westmintser Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints took part of a food drive for the Broomfield FISH Food Bank. We raised over a ton anda half of food for people in Broomfield and Westminster.About a week before the food drive, we sent out flyers which was the absolutehardest thing about Colorado Cares Day. Walking from house to house in Crocks isabout theworstthing you can do when you’re eleven years old. But it was well worth the time.We got to FISH Food Bank early on July 26 because we had to set up the food for everyone. We were lucky because Sonic gave us plenty of food.Mayor Patrick Quinn said,” I am thrilled to see 300+ volunteers this morning.”Every group had a map a truck and at least one helper car. My friend and I rode in one car with my Activity Day President, her husband, and their baby boy, followed by my friend’s dad in his truck. We collected about six bags and felt good about it, and then we were even more excited when we saw some of the other cars. A few cars even had to go back to their assigned neighborhoods to pick up all of the food that people donated. At last it was time to weigh, sort, and put away all the food that we got. One woman counted it all up and we got a grand total of 3,418 pounds of food. That is over 1 ton of food! Shirley McGonnos, Director of FISH said, “I am grateful for the efforts of the volunteers and the help that the Mormon Church has been to the food bank”. It was one of FISH’s best food drive’s. I loved helping everyone.
