Dorian DeLong, a social studies teacher at Thornton High School, is diving in to a “once in a lifetime” event. As a National Delegate for the 7th Congressional District, DeLong will be a big part of the Democratic National Convention. His first duty was to cast an official ballot nominating Barack Obama for the next President of the United States of America.”It’s all very exciting. Especially being a social studies teacher. [The Democratic National Convention] is going to bring a lot of knowledge to my teaching.” said Dorian DeLong. “In October, during my election unit, I am planning to bring this experience to my students.”It seems that his wife Shaylyn and three year-old daughter Evie are as excited as he is to be a delegate, but when asked what they thought about the experience, DeLong replied “My wife is excited for it to be over. It has taken a lot of time away from our summer.””I’ve been enjoying the entire experience. I’m really looking forward to seeing how everything takes place first hand, and not be sitting at home watching it unfold on TV. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity.”
