Learn CPR to Save a LifeIf you want to learn how to save someone’s life, this story is for you! On July 16, 2008, I learned how to do just that, when I took a Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation class (“CPR”) offered through Court Appointed Special Advocates of Arapahoe County (“CASA”). The class was taught by Clay Dobronyi and my CPR certification was issued through the American Heart Association.During the class, I learned how to save a life in an emergency, which is something every kid should know how to do, especially if you love your parents and friends.Mr. Dobronyi taught us how to save a life in three different emergency situations. In the first situation, we learned how to use the Defibrillator, which uses an electrical shock to get your heart pumping again if you faint. The second situation, demonstrated how to respond to infants when they have cardiac-arrest. In those situations, CPR is applied by pressing on the infant’s chest 100 times with your two fingers, although I would caution you to learn CPR before trying to do this. Lastly, we learned to apply CPR for a child or adult by using the palm ofyour hands to press on his or her chest up to 30 compressions before giving the person two breaths of air. This process should be repeated until emergency medical help arrives. We also learned the importance of clearing the air way when someone is choking. The CPR class was the most important and most interesting class I have attended. Now I am CPR certified!
