Where can you find over 19,440 people gathering together in one place, at one time from all 50 states and 134 countries? The answer is easy. You can find anywhere from 13 to 503 delegates, officials, speakers and other staff from each place, all at the 2008 Democratic National Convention. Some of the delegates have been coming to the DNC for as long as they can remember. Take Cecil Benjiemana, a delegate from the US Virgin Islands, for example. “The convention’s great! Very exciting. I am accustom to the process and how the convention goes,” he said. “Each year it seems to get more and more exciting. Especially this year. Two people that have never ran before are running – a black man and a woman.”Carla Arellanes, a delegate from Las Vegas, New Mexico, was celebrating her very first time as a delegate at the DNC. “I’m very excited for all of the events to come. All of my friends keep saying that when I go to the DNC, to ‘make sure to come back home’ and ‘please don’t forget us.'” she said.”This is a wonderful opportunity to participate in democracy while it is in action.” Katherine Satrom, a delegate of Bismarck, North Dakota, said on Monday night inside the Pepsi Center, along with thousands of other delegates including Benjiemana and Arellanes. If you want to see all the facts from the same place I did, you can’t. Unless, of course, you have an official DNC pocket media guide. You can come close though by visiting the DNC’s official website at www.demconvention.com.
