On Tuesday, November 4th, history was changed in such a way that it will never be the same again. The American people elected Barack Obama for president. This may seem like old news. Still, it cannot be denied that President-Elect Obama has smashed many barriers and been a first for many others. For example, he is, of course, the first African-American president. He was also accused of being unexperienced, and the heated topic of his old reverend, Jerimiah Wright, dropped his polls considerably.

Yet he is also one of the youngest people ever to be elected president. His family is still quite young, as well, meaning that for the first time since the early years of the Clinton Administration, there will be young children in the White House. To research this, I went to President Obama's new website, change.gov.

Barack Obama's wife, Michelle, describes herself firstly as a mother. A Harvard graduate, she gave up corporate law and began working for the University of Chicago. While President Obama is in office, Michelle plans to work on women's issues. On the Obama website, she writes, "My first priority will always be to make sure our girls are healthy and grounded." And no, that doesn't mean she is encouraging parents to exercise more discipline on their daughters! Michelle and Barack have two young daughters, Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7. Both girls were born in South Chicago.

The family recently received their code names, which Secret Service released to the public last week. Note: This is more of a tradition. These names do not endanger the First Family. They are as follows. Barack Obama – Renegade Michelle Obama – Renaissance Malia Obama – Radience Sasha Obama – Rosebud

So what will it be like for the First Family to live in the White House? Well, according to one magazine, Michelle Obama still enforces typical household rules – make your bed, clear the table, etc. Yet how can life be normal when you have your own tennis court, grand piano, pastry shop, swimming pool, bowling alley, and movie theater? Formal White House Social Secretary Capricia Marshell lovingly says that the girls will be spoiled rotten. In his speech on Election Day, President-Elect Obama promised his daughters a new puppy to add in to the mix. One family in America lives in the White House. For the next four years, at least, that family's last name is OBAMA.
