On Saturday, April 11th, Arvada hosted the 7th Annual Kite Festival. Its the only day you don’t worry about the wind messing up your hair. At 10:00 am, we had Opening Ceremonies and Pledge hosted by Boy Scout Troop 167. Then it was time to register our kites. There were four catagories, smallest kite, largest kite, highest kite, and most visually appealing kite. My brother (Tommy) and I competed for the smallest kite. We both took first place in our age catagory. YEA ME! It was so fun to see all kinds of kites in the park. We had a pirate ship, butterfly, dragon, snow flake, airplanes, and beautiful homemade kites. The wind co-operated most of the day, but we still had to do a lot of running to get the kites up. At lunch we had a special treat, The Jeffco Brass Band. And they were GREAT! In addition to kite flying, there was jumping castles, face painting, kids crafts, food venders, and community booths. WOW what a busy day. I would like to thank all the sponsors and volunteers for hosting this event. It was great fun for the whole family. See you next year.
