My mom, my best friend

Rachel Faulkner writes, A mother should be there to love you always, and to be on your side through all the tough stuff.

A mother should be there to love you always, and to be on your side through all the tough stuff. My mother does way more than that. Basically, she rocks! For one thing, she is the perfect role model. My mother is strong in faith, compassionate in her community, and a fantastic friend to all. She’s a librarian at a school library, and every day, she impacts the lives of five hundred children. What’s more, she has the perfect relationship with my father, a relationship that I dream of mirroring when I grow up.I can hardly wait until I am older and have a family of my own. I know exactly who to act like… My mother frequently tells me that she loves me unconditionally. This gift of everlasting love is so unbelievably rare that I cannot fathom it. My mother promises that even when I mess up, even when I do something really stupid, she will always be there to love me, no matter what. What greater gift can a mother give to her daughter? Most importantly, my mother is my closest friend. She was there at my birth, she’s been there my entire life to feel pride atmy triumphs and nurse my wounds when I fail. We spend a lot of time together, whether going shopping or going out to Panda Express when no one else is home to find the evidence. She’s like one of my school friends: she’ll laugh at my jokes, tell me if what I’m wearing doesn’t make me look great, and confront me if she thinks I’m making poor choices. There’s a song on my favorite CD, “Fearless”, by Taylor Swift. It’s called “The Best Day”, and it really calls to my heart and describes the relationship between my mom and I. In the song, Taylor Swift sings, “I know you were on my side, even when I was wrong. And I love you, for giving me your eyes, for staying back and watching me shine, and I didn’t know if you knew, so I’m taking the chance to say that I had the best day with you today.” Mom, if you read this, know that I love you so much. Your faith in me is something I am grateful for every day. Thank you for giving me “so much good” in this life. Happy Mother’s Day. I love you.
