Almost there…not close enough

Rachel Faulkner writes, Summer’s right around the corner, and it promises to be one of the best yet.

Summer’s right around the corner, and it promises to be one of the best yet. I know how you can’t wait for it to get here. I can’t either. But we must wait. I don’t know about you, but I’m in school for another week.Kids in high school and middle school often panic towards the end of the year, not because they’re dreading summer (frankly, they can’t wait to be gone), but because of the stress teachers put on us during the last week. We have term papers due, dreaded final exams to take, and grades to spike from the dangerous area of 88% to an A (hopefully!). I have seven finals next week and one today, plus our term paper is due first thing Monday morning. I don’t know how nescessary all that is, but I do know one thing: I’m about to break into a million pieces with all this stress. One thing that teachers sometimes forget about is that in every course, finals are assigned. Sometimes they think that they’re the only one assigning a final, and therefore create a massive, stressful test reviewing everything you learned that semester. Sometimes, they’re aware of this fact and do it anyway. This is WRONG. Students have so much pressure on them that they lose tons of vital sleep, and they study so hard their fingers turn numb from all the pages of notes. That’s not to mention that they’re so stressed about everything that they’e constantly on the verge of tears. How can a student prove that they learned things the previous semester when they can barely keep their eyes open?Maybe I’m exaggerating, or maybe this only happens at a prep school like mine, but I think that the last week of school needs some serious revision. I think that teachers should spend the last few days in leisure, rewarding children for a hard year’s work. I think that unit tests spread throughout the semester can tell how much a child knows. But maybe I’m wrong. What do you think?

  1. I think you are right.
I think you are right. Some of my friends are in high school and think the last week of school is stressful. My picture was taken in Las Vegas at Ceasars Palace.

  2. I loved your story!
