Sometimes Older Is Better…

Dannika Harris writes, This is my favorite part of the year.

This is my favorite part of the year. It’s when the amusement parks open up. Lakeside had a open house for several elementary schools and ours was one of them this past Monday. I couldn’t wait to ride the Chipmunk, one of the best and thrilling rides ever made. It’s like you are going to go right off the track, but it whips you around at the last second. Last year, Lakeside had it’s 100 year anniversary. Can you believe it is now 101 years old and going strong. It’s great to look around and see all the history like the Merry-Go-Round. This is one of the oldest Merry-Go-Rounds still operating in the United States. Also, the steam engine trains called Pulling Billy and Whistling Tom are older then the park. They came to Colorado from the St. Louis World Fair in 1904. Even some of the ticket booths are original. Just think of all the good times families had at the park 100 years ago. I would imagine they had as much fun as my family had. My mom got me to ride the Ferris Wheel. I like fast rides, but when I have to stop at the top of the park up that high I get a little scared.( But I didn’t let it show too much). My brother had a great time at the kiddy park. They have little roller costers, race cars, frog hopper, boats, airplanes, and motor cycles. My whole family enjoyed the Tilt-A-Whirl and Whipet. We all had a great time and there is something for everyone. It also is a great place to make new friends. Lakeside is open from May 29th till August 16th everyday and till September 20th on weekends. Please call for times at 303-477-1621 or check out there web sight at . Remember picnics are always welcome and it is only $2.50 to get in. Rides are 1 to 5 tickets each or you can get a wrist band for everything. Check out your local paper for deals and coupons. I would love to thank Lakeside for the wonderful night and for every ticket sold that night, Lakeside gave a precent back to the schools. WOW! What a great place.
