What some of our Colorado Kids reporters said:I am quite comfortable with my weight, but a lot of people are ruining their lives. Some popular fashion companies like Brigette magazine in Germany are sensible and are using normal and more realistic people for models. Other brands such as Ralph Lauren though, are still using too thin models.Ira Tandon, 10, Aurora+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Seeing an ultra thin model makes you wonder what the model did to get so thin. It makes you wonder what you would have to do to get so thin.Eliza Halpin, 11, Denver ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Looking at ultra thin models makes me feel self conscious. Then I remember those pictures were modified to make the models flawless, tall, and skinny. Joey Dearing, 10, Denver +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++When I look at those girls I think to myself they are all just like us and though some of them may be that thin in real life, most of their looks are altered digitally by a computer.Mary Eleanor Tezak, 11, Denver +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++I feel large and I know I shouldn’t, but when all you see on TV and commercials is skinny models, anyone would feel that way. I get a lot of exercise and eat well but I know I will never be that thin. Dannika Harris, 11, Lakewood +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++I have never looked down upon myself and I don’t plan on it, but when there are ultra-skinny and always perfect-looking models out there, I can’t help but to wonder if that is the way the world wants us to look, and I never wanted to bear that burden and I never will.Gabi Curry, 11, Parker +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Looking at ultra-thin models and actresses doesn’t change my view of my individual worth. Jessica Cardall, 13, Littleton +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++When I look at super skinny actresses and models, I feel that the media wants every girl out there to be stick thin. That is not the case; everyone should be happy with their body and shouldn’t have to look a certain way just to be pretty.Ally Malecha, 11, Westminster +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Ultra-thin models and actresses make me feel fat and horrible about myself.Zoe Knight, 11, Denver +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++It makes me feel like they wouldn’t hire anyone who is the least bit less beautiful than that model. It makes me doubt my looks when I see models that could get away with wearing anything.Sara (Hughes), 11, Thornton +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I am happy to be who I am. I don’t see why people want to starve themselves or go on a diet to make themselves appealing to the public. We all shine with beauty inside and out; we don’t need to hurt ourselves to be beautiful. Tiara Stephan, 11, Centennial +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Being a guy, I don’t usually think too much about how thin models and actresses look. I think the equivalent for guys may be looking at body builders or pro sport players.Davis Anderson, 14, Englewood +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++When looking at those models, I feel bad for them. They starve and work out and they do it because that is what the modeling empire tells them to do. That is what the modeling empire is thrives on. Laura Ledezma, 13, Broomfield +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++I don’t really care because I would not like to have to care about my weight all the time and not enjoy life. Julia Gergely, 10, Denver +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Sort of weird. I mean, really I feel bigger, and odd-looking, but once I see other people, I just think, they are only models; everyone else looks like me.Jensina Bailly, 11, Denver +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++It makes me feel like I am under pressure to become thinner or go on a diet. It makes me feel underaccomplished and like a loser.Caroline Till, 12, Englewood +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++I have learned to ignore the photos of ultra glamorous, stick-thin celebrities. I know they are Photoshopped. However, to say it doesn’t bother me at least a little bit would be a lie. Lena Novins-Montagueser, 11, Denver +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++It makes me feel like the models don’t have lives and they just want money.Lillian Lungren, 11, Denver +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++It makes me feel sometimes jealous. It also makes me feel like I want to sing, or seeing a model could make me feel like dancing.Kaitlyn Sudolnik, 10, Littleton +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++It makes me feel like girls my age are under way too much pressure and they feel the need to live up to what they are not. It makes us ashamed of who we are.Kelsey Campbell, 11, Lakewood +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Looking at ultra-thin models makes me feel like they are pushing everyone down and trying to be the best of the best.Felicia Pichulo, 13, Longmont +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++It makes people feel that they are not important and are not fit for this world because of the images shown of women. They show beautiful, perfect hair, which we all know it is not possible to have perfect hair. Another way people feel is bad, and worthless. Another way people feel bad is that they feel ugly and not valuable. A person can name 12 things wrong with their appearance, but their friend can’t name a single one. Lastly, Models like this can even make little girls feel bad about themselves!Orion Pilger, 12, Lafayette +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++When I look at ultra-thin models and actresses it makes me question if they eat healthy and exercise, or if they just diet. I would rather look healthy and strong, rather than skinny and weak.Vivian Romano, 9, Centennial +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++It makes me feel like they’re crazy for being so skinny. It doesn’t seem healthy.Bridget Galaty, 11, Denver +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++When I see ultra-thin models, I feel bad for them. They feel like in order to be the best they have to be a size 0. What all of them need to realize is that they are really beautiful on the inside, and that in the long run, no one is going to care if you’re a size 0 when your 70 years-old. When I look at them, I feel proud of myself for being modest, and I am totally okay with my bigger-size. I am proud of myself and all my friends and family for not thinking that you have to look ‘right’ to do well in life. Overall, I think that once you are pretty on the inside, you will be beautiful on the outside.Emma Selner, 13, Denver
