Colorado Kids speak outWe asked some of our Colorado Kids reporters: What healthy foods do you like at your school cafeteria?+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++What I really like about my school lunches is that no matter what the meal is, they try to give us one main course, two healthy side dishes, and a small dessert. I really enjoy eating healthier because I can focus more for my afternoon classes. One of the things I like best is that whenever kids are handing their trays in, they are almost no healthy foods left on their plate, only what’s left of their main course.Emma S., 8th grade, St. Vincent de Paul, Denver+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++At our school, we have lots of healthy choices, but some not-so-good ones. Some of my favorite healthy foods are baked potatoes (no butter, cheese, etc.), salad, tomatoes, and the large variety of fruits and veggies every day.Isabelle A., 5th grade, Cottonwood Creek Elementary, Englewood+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Our cafeteria offers Subway sandwiches on certain days. I like that they only use wheat bread. You can get meats that are less fat, like turkey, and lots of veggies. I love the fresh tomatoes.Sara H., grade 6, Century Middle, Thornton+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++I love the baked chips my school has. My mom loves it when I buy them because none of them have hydrogenated anything (transfats) like some chips do.Mariah L., 6th grade, Rocky Heights Middle School, Highlands Ranch+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Some healthy foods I like at my school are salads. My school used to have just plain salads, but now they are making turkey salads and chicken salads. However, since I’m a vegetarian, so that isn’t very great.Joey D., 5th grade, Cory Elementary, Denver+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++I like their mashed potatoes and their fruit, and most of the time I like their meat.Jensina B., 6th grade, Bill Roberts School, Denver+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
