It seemed like there were millions of dogs gathered in Washington Park for the Furry Scurry. Or, there was at least enough barking to make it seem like there were millions of dogs. The Furry Scurry, hosted by the Dumb Friends League, is a two mile walk (or one complete lap) around Washington Park to raise money for homeless pets and support the shelter. This year’s walk was the 17 th annual and was also the Dumb Friends League’s 100th anniversary! What fun it was! Participants brought their dog, or dogs, for this scurry which happenedat 9 a.m on May first. Even ifyou don’t have a dog, you couldstill participate. All you had to dowas register and show up! I walked with my friend, Alex Richey. As we made our way to the starting line, we picked up the free stuff like water, snacks, reusable bags, bandanas, and Frisbees. As we began the walk, there were over 6,500 people and their dogs registered. There were so many cute dogs!! Some of the dogs took a dip in the lake or stream, while others paraded along in their new bandanas. One dog wasevenriding in a stroller! By the time we finished walking, over ten thousand had registered in the Dumb Friends League’s Furry Scurry. After the walk, there were all types of contests for dogs and their owners. The contests included look-alikes and demos by the Colorado Disc Dogs. There was also a “Flealess Market” with vendors selling great treats and gifts for pets. The Furry Scurry was great fun, while supporting a good cause!
