By Allyson Malecha, Rachel Faulkner, Collin Meyers, Dannika Harris, and Bailey CrossThey came from far away. They came from close by. But in the end, the important thing is that they came. Who are they? They are the 12,000 educators and students who are attending the ISTE conference. People came from countries like Singapore, Germany, Canada, Australia, the Philippines, and 50 states – and all for the same reason.”We all have a common thread. We’re all in search of how to make technology better; how to make our schools better,” said Nancy White of Colorado Springs, who is attending the conference. Friendships are also made. “Until three minutes ago, we didn’t know each other!” White laughed, pointing to the other teachers she is chatting with.”We’re excited about bringing technology to our students,” said Michael Gonzales, another attendee. Gonzales stated the true reason for 12,000 tech enthusiasts; they’re for us, the students, to make our generation educated with innovative technology. Many have attended before. “I try to attend this conference yearly!” said Dr. Susan Flannelly. Sandra McClarken of Philadelphia has attended every year since 1998! With 3 days to go, the excitement of ISTE attendees is electrically palpable. Said Debbie Ball of Texas, “I learn so much at the technology conference…I can’t wait to bring this new technology to the school and share it with the children.”
