At the 2010 ISTE Conference there were many new apps for mobile devices such as the Apple iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch. One company that is following this trend is PBS Kids. Jen Wells is the designer of the five apps available from PBS. There are two literature apps, one feeling app, one game app, and one picture editing app. I also got to chance to test out the brand new apps. First I tried Martha’s Dog Party. In this creative app four to seven year olds can play a dog chow time game, a doggie dress up game, Martha Says which is like the popular Simon Says game, and a Pop Quiz about what you learned throughout the app. I then tested out Super Why a game where four to seven year olds can chose a story and either read it alone or have it narrated. The next app I tested was Let’s Color which is an interactive coloring book. You first start out with Curious George and then chose a background like a heart. You then can add colors and also some interesting characters. After testing Let’s Color I chose the Mister Rodgers Neighborhood My Journal. In this app children four to seven years can talk about whatever they would like to that’s on their minds. The last app I tested was Photo Factory where you can chose a photo from your photos on your mobile device and then edit it the way you want to! I would highly recommend these apps which are all available in the app store for less than $2.99.
