Have A Laugh with Ramona and Beezus

Lena N-M writes, Ramona and Beezus…

Ramona and Beezus, a new movie based on the popular book series by Beverly Clearly offers up some lighthearted and occasionally dopey comedy, several love interests, and an overall fun to watch film. It won’t be winning an Oscar anytime soon, but for those of us who enjoyed reading about the various antics of Ramona, our favorite mischievous nine year old, it is certainly enjoyable.Joey King stars as Ramona, and portrays the imaginative and sweet girl very well. Alongside her, Selena Gomez stars as Beezus, her older sister. And for those of us who may not have to much respect for Disney stars, I’m happy to report that this was a good fit for her and she seemed to understand the character. Also in the movie is John Corbett, Bridget Moynahan, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Josh Duhamel. The storyline deals with the grim reality of the current recession in a way that might help younger viewers understand it more. When Ramona’s dad loses his job, she is determined to find a way to help with the families’ financial situation. Through it all, she gets a few scraped up knees, in a fair amount of trouble, but in true Ramona fashion, everything ends up all right. The movie is rated G, so children of all ages shouldn’t hesitate to see it. If you enjoyed Diary of a Wimpy Kid or Eloise, this is the movie for you. Just approach it with an opened mind and be ready to be transported to Portland, Orgeon where Ramona’s imagination runs wild.
