After 9 months of hard work, Allie Campbell received her Bronze Award from the Girl Scouts of Colorado. The Bronze Award is the highest award for Junior Girl Scouts and recognizes leadership skills as girls work together to help their community. Allie and 3 other girls held an e-cycle event to address the problem of heavy metals in the landfills.”The majority of heavy metals in landfills come from old electronics. I wanted to help clean it up and make the world a better place,” said Allie as she received her award on July 30, 2010.In the Village East community, the girls educated neighbors about the harm of tossing old electronics with their trash. Then they held a 1 day e-cycle event partnering with Best Buy who donated their e-cycling services to the girls.Amanda Kalina, a Girl Scout of Colorado representative, said “I think it’s a cool project because it helped the environment and Girl Scouts are all about the environment.”
