Ken Burns is a very popular director and producer of documentary films. He has written numerous documentaries and received several awards throughout his career. His newest documentary is called "The Tenth Inning." It is about the history of our nation's favorite pastime, Baseball. A couple of weeks ago, Ken Burn's answered questions from the audience following a sneak peak of his documentary film that was played at the University of Colorado in Denver.
The Dean of the University referred to Ken Burn's as "PBS' best story teller."Ken Burn's also took time for an exclusive interview with Colorado Kids reporter Bradley King.
Ken Burns' newest documentary "The Tenth Inning" is a continuation from his 1st inning to the 9th inning. "The Tenth Inning" reviews time periods from 1994 to the Present. It covers times like steroid usage, immigration, statistics, astonishing victories and defeats and more. Ken Burns was inspired to make this documentary due to his love of the game.
A lot of baseball players used steroids to enhance their performance which isn't a good thing. Ken Burns said that was an issue that he "wanted to tackle." Immigrants from other countries grew up playing baseball hoping to get selected to a baseball teams o that they could go to North America. Once they are there, they all start their career in the minor leagues. They play to get to the Major League, and they all think that they will make it! If they don't make it they get sent back to their home town, which they don't want. Mr. Burns told me that"baseball hasn't changed much in all of these years"and that "it is the only sport not run by the clock." The biggest change in baseball is the quality of play is better but players are being paid more. In the beginning baseball players didn't get paid a lot, now they get paid millions of dollars.
Ken Burns knows a lot on Baseball and his favorite team is the Red Sox. He said that he likes the Red Sox because he lives in New England. He also said that his favorite ballpark is Fenway Park because "it is the Oldest Park" and "it's beautiful." Mr. Burns has interviewed a lot of players, and I mean a lot. But out of them all Ted Williams was his favorite. He told me that he wishes he could interview Jackie Robinson if he had the chance.
Ken Burns is a unique and incredibly talented person. So, look forward to this master story tellers marvelous documentary of "The Tenth Inning" that will be aired on PBS, September 28th and 29th. Also, sometime in the future, look for his newest documentary that he is currently working on which is about Prohibition. I am sure it too will be another great hit!
