Sophie Jordan's 323-page book, "Firelight" (the first of a three-book series), is a breathtaking book, containing the perfect blend of romance and adventure. It sheds a new light on the mysterious species of dragons, brings them to present time, and shows what they might be like today, in the form of draki. This book is extremely gripping, in fact I couldn't put Firelight down in the three days it took me to read it.

In "Firelight," the main character, Jacinda, lives in a "pride" in the mountains, with her kind. She and her people are a species that are hunted so they can be used for their gem-tracking abilities and the use of their skin. They can fly, and have special "talents", each unique to their type. Jacinda and her pride are draki, descendants of dragons. They have evolved from being dragons to being able to shape-shift into human form. Jacinda is happy to live among them, but then–Jacinda breaks the most sacred tenet of the draki. She must go to live in the human world in order to survive. The only problem–if she goes too long without manifesting (assuming her dragon-like form), her inner draki will disappear and die. But Jacinda will go to any length to keep the most precious part of her from death–even if it the way to live may be deadly.

I recommend this book to fantasy lovers and romance lovers alike. It is a unique book to me, unlike anything I've ever read before. It is recommended for ages 12 and up. I definitely give this book five (flaming) stars! To find out more about "Firelight" and Sophie Jordan's other books, go to http://www.sophiejordan.net/ya/books.html
